Dear Reader,
Welcome to your December 2024 Astrology Newsletter!
Could you please take just a moment (less than a minute) to answer a quick question about possible changes to this newsletter? Your feedback is important, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I’m considering a new delivery model for the newsletter. As many of you know, this year I transitioned my blog from my website to Medium, where I’ve been building my profile and recently I also created a publication, called Mystic Insights. Over the past few months, I’ve shared a variety of articles there, including current astrological insights and educational content. I’ve also shared glimpses of these pieces on Substack, Instagram, and the YouTube Community tab.
As we approach 2025, I’d like to share the articles I publish on Medium with my Substack audience as well. My question is:
Would you prefer to receive these astrological updates via email regularly, or
Would you rather stick with the current once-a-month format and manually check additional updates via the Substack app?
For those of you passionate about writing, I also invite you to explore Medium and join Mystic Insights. This new publication features myself and another spiritual writer, Elizabeth, and I’d love to bring more writers on board.
Feel free to reply to this email with your thoughts or questions—I’d love to hear from you!
The month begins with the New Moon in Sagittarius 9°, happening on December 1st, bringing a fresh start infused with optimism, exploration, and a yearning for truth. Falling in the 1st decan of Sagittarius, it emphasizes personal beliefs, freedom, and the pursuit of higher knowledge or adventure. However, its aspects create a mixed energetic field, encouraging both ambition and careful planning.
New Moon Overview
This new moon forms a tense square to Saturn (now in a direct motion) in Pisces, adding a layer of seriousness and responsibility to the otherwise free-spirited energy of Sagittarius. This aspect suggests that new beginnings may come with obstacles or require a solid foundation. Saturn in Pisces may bring emotional limitations into focus, asking us to be realistic with our grand visions, take practical steps while remember about the importance of setting clear boundaries. In addition, the progress that we make around this time, might feel slow or hindered by doubt, fear, or external challenges.
On a positive note, this new moon also forms a harmonious trine to Mars in Leo boosting us with extra confidence, motivation, and creative energy to take action. This aspect is bold and energizing, supporting leadership, courage, and the ability to push forward despite Saturnian hurdles.
Mercury Retrograde
With Mercury still retrograde until December 15th, this New Moon is less about immediate action and more about reflection, recalibration, and strategizing. It’s an excellent time to review your aspirations, reconsider plans, and reconnect with your inner truths before taking decisive steps after Mercury stations direct.
The best way to balance Sagittarius’ enthusiasm with Saturn’s discipline, is by setting ambitious yet achievable intentions. Saturn’s influence may slow down our progress, so it is essential that we give time for ideas to mature. Mercury retrograde is an excellent opportunity for refining plans, addressing unfinished business, and for ensuring that our vision aligns with our values. Mars in Leo provides the drive and confidence to pursue our goals, but we shall aim for measured action rather than impulsivity.
On December 6th, Mars turns retrograde in Leo 6°. This retrograde ends in Cancer on February 23rd, 2024.
Mars is a fiery, assertive, and sometimes aggressive planet, associated with action, ambition, conflict, and energy. When retrograde, Mars tends to internalize its energy, leading to delays, frustrations, or a re-evaluation of our drives and actions. The seventeenth century English astrologer William Lilly, often saw Mars retrograde as a time of discord, strife, and reconsideration in the matters Mars governs.
Leo, a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun, associated with leadership, pride, creativity, and self-expression.
From the mundane point of view, we may see this as a period where leaders or figures of power face criticism or challenges to their authority. In addition, efforts in creative or theatrical pursuits could experience setbacks. Disputes may arise from stubbornness or wounded pride, which according to William Lilly should be tempered with humility and patience.
Venus and Pluto conjunction at 0° Aquarius on December 7, 2024
The conjunction of Venus and Pluto at 0° Aquarius on December 7, 2024, activates the very important degree of the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn from December 2020, a moment that symbolized the beginning of a new societal cycle emphasizing innovation, equality, and collective restructuring. This alignment highlights themes of transformation in global values, relationships, and financial systems, particularly those linked to technology, humanitarian efforts, and social movements. While Venus is all about harmony and resources, Pluto uncovers the hidden truth and power struggles, so this conjunction may also signal breakthroughs in financial systems or technological industries with debates over ethics and accessibility.
Neptune direct in Pisces 27°
Meanwhile, Neptune stations direct at 27° Pisces, amplifying its influence on collective ideals, spiritual awakening, and creativity. This shift reawakens hope and connection, while it also dissolves illusions and brings clarity to areas of confusion or deception. Together, these events merge the intellectual and technological themes of Aquarius with the emotional and spiritual dimensions of Pisces, stirring humanity toward innovation while keeping its feet on the ground in compassion and shared dreams. The activation of the 2020 Great Conjunction degree underscores the continuation of long-term societal transformation, urging a balance between forward-thinking progress and soulful integrity.
Full Moon in Gemini 23°, December 15, 2024
The Full Moon in Gemini illuminates themes of communication, information, and adaptability. It highlights a culmination or revelation in areas related to learning, networking, and sharing ideas. At 23° Gemini, the focus is on balancing intellectual curiosity with emotional clarity, asking us to reconcile facts with feelings.
The Full Moon’s placement in a Mercury-ruled sign is particularly significant because Mercury stations direct on the same day at 6° of Sagittarius. After a period of retrograde introspection, Mercury turning direct allows a forward momentum in creative pursuits, self-expression, and confidence-building efforts. Together, these energies support a fresh perspective, clear communication, and the courage to express yourself authentically.
Chiron Direct in Aries 19°, December 29, 2024
Chiron, the wounded healer, turns direct at 19° Aries on December 29. While retrograde, Chiron calls for introspection into unresolved wounds and insecurities. Now, while turning direct, it will support proactive steps toward self-empowerment and courage in dealing with vulnerabilities. In Aries, Chiron emphasizes themes of individuality, self-assertion, and identity. This shift is an invitation to reclaim our inner warrior and to turn pain into strength.
New Moon in Capricorn 9°, December 30, 2024
The New Moon in Capricorn initiates a new cycle of ambition, structure, and responsibility. It is time to set realistic, long-term goals and build strong ground for success. At 9° of Capricorn, this lunation brings out themes of discipline and perseverance. Under the practical energy of Capricorn, this is the time to take realistic steps toward achieving our goals.
The New Moon will also be a good time to reassess our relationship with authority, career, and personal accountability. Try to reflect on what success means to you and align your intention with your core values.
End of December 2024 Mars-Pluto Opposition (Mars Retrograde)
Throughout the final days of December, a tense opposition between Mars retrograde in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius creates intense and transformative energy. The retrograde motion of Mars adds complexity, as it emphasizes internal conflict, revisiting past actions, and recalibrating strategies.
Mars in Leo is all about individuality, creative expression, and personal power, while Pluto in Aquarius represents collective transformation, power dynamics, and systemic change. This opposition activates a struggle between personal wants and greater changes in society and encourages us to balance the assertion of self and collaboration. There can be rising tensions within the relationships, leadership contexts, or projects, though all this energy also extends a potent invitation toward breakthrough and change.
